HB Tórshavn to play Liverpool FC in the Champions League?

Liverpool FC vs. HB Tórshavn in the Champions League!
- Well, that scenario is not so far away, after UEFA has allowed Liverpool to enter the Champions League, even if they were not qualified initially. But as winners of the Champions League 2005, UEFA thought that Liverpool should be given a chance to defend their title and has therefore “bent” the rules, so that Liverpool will be allowed to enter the competition, but however, hey will have to start right at the beginning of the competition in the first qualifying round, where the likes of HB Tórshavn are also to be found
HB have an 8,3% chance of being drawn against Liverpool, as Liverpool is set to play one of 12 unseeded teams in the first qualifying round for the Champions League. These teams are:
Rabotnicki Skopje (Macedonia), Dinamo Minsk (Belarus), Sliema Wanderers (Malta), Pyunik Yerevan (Armenia), SK Tirana (Albania), Levadia Tallinn (Estonia), Glentoran (Northern Ireland), Llansantffraid (Wakes), F91 Dudelange (Luxembourg), CL (Azerbaijan), HB Torshavn (Faroe Islands) and Kairat Almaty (Kazakhstan).
But of course, HB and Liverpool can meet even if they are not drawn together in the first qualifying round. If both teams progress from the first round, they can meet later in the competition :-)
In 2005, HB Tórshavn celebrated its 100th birthday and were in negotiations with Liverpool to get them to the Faroe Islands to play a friendly game against HB. HB communicated directly with manager Gerard Houllier and he was positive about the idea and the deal was almost in the bag. But with Gerard Houllier’s departure from Liverpool at the end of season, negotiations broke down and the match never became a reality.
But HB now has another chance to get Liverpool – and this time for free. They just need some luck in the draw that will take place on Friday June 24, 2005. The chance is 1 out of 12…
