No miracle in Lithuania, no Liverpool for HB: FBK Kaunas – HB Tórshavn 4 – 0!

July 19, 2005: UEFA Champions League, 1st qualifying round, 2nd leg:

FBK Kaunas – HB Tórshavn 4-0 (1-0)
1-0 Andrius Velicka 44’
2-0 Rimkevicius 64’
3-0 Rimkevicius 81’
4-0 Irmantas Zelmikas 90’

As expected, HB Tórshavn couldn’t overcome the 4-2 deficit they brought in at home to FBK Kaunas in the first leg of the first qualifying round of the Champions League. The result today was 4-0 to FBK Kaunas.

FBK Kaunas got their first goal 1 minute from halftime. According to HB Tórshavn´s website, www.hb.fo, goalkeeper Bárður Johannesen didn’t hold on to a freekick from the left and the ball ended at the feet of Andrius Velicka who scored in the open goal.

Kaunas had other chances before the goal, but HB also had one of their own.

19 minutes into the second half, Kaunas got their second. Rimkevicius tackled his way through HB’s defense and scored.

Rimkevicius scored again to 3-0 nine minutes from time and in the last minute Irmantas Zelmikas made it 4-0 to Kaunas.

HB’s players were struggling in the humid conditions, 25-28 degrees centigrade, and when they tried to press forward, Kaunas had an easy task to break down the tiring defence.

On aggregate, FBK Kaunas win 8-2 and progress to the second qualifying round, where they meet Liverpool FC (if Liverpool don’t lose by 3 goals against TNS tonight…)
