HB Tórshavn get through to the quarter finals of the Cup after lucky escape against NSÍ Runavík

HB Tórshavn looked liked being ousted from the Cup when NSÍ Runavík took the lead 7 minutes from time, but only 3 minutes later, HB was handed a life line, when a deflected shot from distance beat Jens Martin Knudsen in the NSÍ goal. 5 minutes into second half of extra time, Jens Martin Knudsen fumbled a long range effort which led to HB's winner.

NSÍ Runavík - HB Tórshavn 1-1 (0-0)
Extra time: 0-1 (0-0)
On aggregate: 1-2
1-0 Jónhard Frederiksberg
1-1 Rógvi Jacobsen
1-2 Jákup á Borg

The whether conditions were horrific and made it very difficult to play soccer. The wind was strong and it rained cats and dogs during the entire match (except when it was deputized by a hailstorm from time to time). It probably hasn't rained this much in a HB-game since HB played away to MB Miðvágur in 1991.

However, it was NSÍ who was the better team in the first half – when they had the assist of the wind. Rógvi Jacobsen tried with a shot for HB early in the first half, but apart from that, the NSÍ goal was never threatened in the first 45 minutes.

NSÍ on the other hand created a handful of scoring opportunities, but HB's new goalkeeper, Marcin David, made some crucial saves. He looked very secure throughout the match and will undoubtedly rescue HB some crucial points during the season. His reflexes are like those of a snake and he has the agilety of a Russian Olympic gymnast. – A super goalkeeper.

However, on one occasion he was beaten, but this time he was saved by the crossbar, after Nenad Stancovic had fired a thunderous shot from 30 meters.

In the second half, HB had more of the ball (as they now had the wind in the back), but however, they had problems creating any scoring opportunities, as the NSÍ defense looked very secure and never allowed HB's forward to get anywhere near the goal.

At the other end, NSÍ hadn't much to offer in the second half and the game looked to be going to extra time.

But then, 7 minutes from time, NSÍ broke an HB attack and countered; all the way from their own penalty area on the right, they quickly moved the ball up field alongside the touchline to the right flank where Debus Danielsen made a low cross to Jónhard Frederiksberg in the penalty area, who turned and scored for NSÍ!

HB looked dead and buried, but just 3 minutes later, HB got a lucky break. Rógvi Jacobsen took a shot from 25-30 meters which took a wicked deflection and beat Jens Martin Knudsen in the penalty area. A lucky escape for HB!

In the first half of the extra time, NSÍ again had the better opportunities, but again Marcin David in the HB goal kept the ball outside his goal. On one occasion, the ball looked to be going in, but just before the ball crept over the line, David dived to his right and got his fingertips to the ball and diverted it around the post.

NSÍ had several corners in succession which tested HB's defense, but HB weathered the storm.

About 5 minutes into the second half of extra time, HB got their winning goal. Rógvi Jacobsen tried his luck again from 25-30 meters, and lucky he was, as Jens Martin Knudsen fumbled the ball which bounced on to the crossbar, and before he knew it, Jákup á Borg was there to poke the ball over the line.

After that, HB was in total control, and NSÍ never threatened HB for the remainder of the match.

Jákup á Borg almost made it 1-3, but alone with keeper Knudsen, he bent his shot wide of the post, as he tried to curl it around the keeper.
