May 14, 2006, Poland vs. Faroe Islands, Friendly Game

Poland - Faroe Islands 4-0 (1-0)
1-0 Sebastian Mila 15'
2-0 Grzegorz Rasiak 48'
3-0 Marek Saganowski 73'
4-0 Grzegorz Rasiak 84'

Faroe Islands' national team coach, Jógvan Martin Olsen, had fielded a very inexperienced team for the game, partially because of injuries to experienced players and partially because foreign players are on club duty.

The starting line up for the Faroe Islands was: Jens Martin Knudsen, Óli Johannesen, Atli Danielsen, Janus Joensen, Jann Ingi Petersen, Kári Nielsen, Fróði Benjaminsen, Súni Olsen, Hans Pauli Samuelsen, Jákup á Borg and Christian Høgni Jacobsen.

Janus Joensen and Hans Pauli Samuelsen both debuted for the Faroe Islands. Kári Nielsen won his 4th cap. Jann Ingi Petersen, who was recalled after being left out of the team for a long time, won his 11th cap and Atli Petersen made his 13th appearance.

Jens Martin Knudsen, on the other hand, played his 65th and final match for the Faroe Islands, as he is now retiring from the national team. He was replaced by Jákup Mikkelsen at the end of the first half.

The Faroe Islands did have a couble of good scoring oppurtunities early in the first half, but both were misused. Instead, it was Poland who took the lead 15 inutes into the match thanks to a Sebastian Milla goal. Mila just recently helped his club Austra Wien win the double in Austria.

Just 3 minutes into the second half, Grzegorz Rasiak, made it 2-0 for Poland. Rasiak just recently signed for Southampthon, after having been there on loan from Tottenham since February. Maybe he answered some of his critics with that goal, as he has many; for example, a Polish band called Superpuder have composed a song about him, "Rasiak song", where they ask him to please stop playing soccer. Hmm, that's cruel!

On 75 minutes Marek Saganowski, Vitoria Guimaraes, made it 3-0 for Poland.

Six minutes from the end, Rasiak made it 4-0 with his second goal of the match. Maybe that band should write a new song: "Please stay"...
