Súni Olsen quits the international stage and joins Víkngur next season

Midfielder Súni Olsen has announced his retirement from the national team after 53 matches in the Faroese jersey; making his debut in 2001. Olsen scored three goals for the national team; two of them directly on free kick.

Olsen will now be concentrating on club football and has just penned a contract with Víkingur, having spent the last three seasons at B36 Tórshavn.

Two friendly internationals against Malta

The national team will play two friendly internationals against Malta in the coming year; the first being played in Malta at the Ta' Qali stadium on 19 November and then in June next year in the Faroe Islands which will be the first friendly international at home since 2004, when the opposition was also Malta. The Faroes won 3-2. The two countries have also met in World Cup qualifiers in 1997 with the Faroes coming out victorious home and away.

Coach Sámal Erik Hentze quitting AB Argir

Sámal Erik Hentze who has been coach at AB Argir since 2010 has announced he’ll be leaving them at the end of the season as he 'seeks new challenges'. The rumour is that Hentze will take up the vacant coaching job at B36 Tórshavn where Mikkjal Thomassen is stepping down at the end of the season.

Skála returns to the top division

With a 4-1 win over Víkingur on Saturday, Skála have been promoted back to the top division which they were a part of from 2002 – 2008, ending in the runners-up position in 2005, just pipped by B36 Tórshavn on the final day of competition.

Two relegations in a row then saw Skála drop to the 3rd tier, before returning to the second tier again in 2011. Since 2010, Skála have been coach by Eliesar J. Olsen who turned 24 years old a fortnight ago, but already has two promotions under his belt.

Placed second in the table, Skála will be promoted alongside table-toppers B68 Toftir who made sure of their promotion the week before.

07 Vestur name Hegga Samuelsen as new coach

07 Vestur, who are as good as relegated, have appointed 40-year old Jógvan Hendrik (“Hegga”) Samuelsen as coach for the next three years. He’ll replace the Pole Piotr Karakowsi.  

Samuelsen was also 07 Vestur coach from 2010 to May 2011 when he was sacked due to poor results.

On Monday national coach Lars Olsen named his team for the upcoming qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Austria on 11 and 15 October, respectively.
