January 2014 Round-Up:

January 31, 2014

Víkingur winger Kaj Leo í Bartalsstovu to Norwegian club
22-year old winger Kaj Leo í Bartalsstovu has signed for Norwegian 3rd tier club Levanger FK.

Cameroonian on trial at Víkingur
Víkingur are currently testing Cameroonian winger Eric Bassombeng who has experience from the Swedish top division where he has scored 11 goals in 86 appearances for Örebro SK and latest for GAIS where he was given the boot for breach of contract as he had left the country without the club’s permission.

----

Central midfielder Høgni Madsen to EB/Streymur
EB/Streymur have signed central midfielder Høgni Madsen who has played for ÍF Fuglafjørður in recent seasons. However, as Madsen is currently studying in Denmark, he won’t be available for the whole season, but he has a long summer vacation from 5 May to 1 September.

----

Hallur Hansson returning from Danish Superliga club AaB Aalborg
21-year old midfielder Hallur Hansson who has been at AaB Aalborg in Denmark for the last year and a half has been released by the club six months before the contract expiration as there wasn’t much hope for 1st team football.

Hansson will return to the Faroes where he says he’s looking forward to get a formal education in addition to playing football, so it sounds like his hunger for going abroad again has ended.  It’s not clear yet for which club Hansson will play.

----

Veteran KÍ player Heðin á Lakjuni retiring
Veteran KÍ player Heðin á Lakjuni, who has played for 19 years in the top division, has announced his retirement. – As such, as he didn’t categorically deny playing another season, but it was highly unlikely.

Á Lakjuni has an amazing record by winning the double with three different clubs; his youth club KÍ in 1999, B36 Tórshavn in 2001 and HB Tórshavn in 2004.

Á Lakjuni is just three goals short of the magic 100 in 381 top flight matches. Additionally he has 16 caps for the Faroe Islands where he never really managed to convince the coaches.

Á Lakjuni has been used both as a forward and as a full back.

From Russia to Skála with love

Transfer news:

AB Argir

AB signed former HB Tórshavn forward Jógvan Skeel Nolsøe who has found it difficult to become a first-team regular.

AB are said to be on the lookout for two high-quality foreign players, supposedly from Denmark, while Senegalese striker Ahmed Keita is likely not part of AB’s future plans. Left midfielder Dion Splidt, who scored six goals last term, has moved to Denmark to study.

----

B36 Tórshavn

B36 have signed 07 Vestur midfielder Eli Falkvard Nielsen, who in 2012 played a handful of matches for HB Tórshavn, but otherwise has always played for 07 Vestur. 21-year old Nielsen has played once for the Faroese U-21 team and several matches for the U-19 and U17 team.

----

B68 Toftir

B68 Toftir have lured back influential midfielder Jann Ingi Petersen after a year at Víkingur, where he was allowed to leave although his contract was for this coming year also.

Also 19-year old defender Bergur Gregersen comes from Víkingur on loan, although he has little experience in the top tier, having featured in only three matches for Víkingur’s seniors.

----

HB Tórshavn

HB Tórshavn have signed 18-year old TB Tvøroyri striker Poul Ingason who scored 7 goals last season. Ingason was also the man who scored the equalizer for the Faroese under-21 team in injury time against Rumania.

HB hope he’ll be the striker they’ve been looking for that can score 15 goals in a season, although that might not come in his first season for the champions. But with a 3-year contract, those goals could be coming as he matures.

20-year old defender René Shaki Joensen has returned to his youth club HB Tórshavn after several years at Danish club Brøndy IF where he started at their youth department in 2009, and since 2012 has been part of the A-talent squad and the senior team and made his debut in the Danish Superliga last May.

But with little hope for more playing time for the seniors, Brøndby has allowed Joensen to leave six months before his contract expired.

Brøndby mostly saw Joensen as a central defender although he has mostly been used as a full back for the Faroese U21 team. He has twice been capped for the Faroese senior team.

----

ÍF Fuglafjørður

ÍF have announced that they have persuaded 43-year old goalkeeper Jákup Mikkelsen to take yet another season for the club where he has been since 2010.

----

Skála

Skála have said they are in search for a goalkeeper. They will likely also sign 21-year old midfielder from 07 Vestur.

----

Víkingur

Víkingur have announced that forward Andreas Lava Olsen has rejoined the club after spending the last four years studying in Denmark. The Lava-man, as he is often called, is not expected to join Víkingur before July when he has finished his studies. Lava Olsen was rated among the top strikers before he went to Denmark where he has been half-forgotten – also because of injuries. He has been capped seven times for the Faroe Islands.

Midfielder Sølvi Vatnhamar who is also studying in Denmark will also be part of Víkingur’s team this season although it’s possible he’ll miss most of the first half of the season because of the studies. – It’s not ruled out that he could commute for some of the early matches however.

----

And finally, what it’s all about: matches!

The first training match of the year was played on Saturday where Víkingur beat newly promoted Skála 3-0 with all the goals coming in the second half from Kaj Leo í Bartalsstovu, Hjalti Strømsten and Heðin Hansen.

As always, well mention the scores we get on our usual pre-season page.

René Shaki Joensen with Superliga experience join HB Tórshavn who also snap TB Tvøroyri striker Poul Ingason
