June 23, 2007: UEFA Intertoto Cup, 1st round, 1st leg:

KÍ Klaksvík lose by odd goal away to Hammarby

Hammarby - KÍ Klaksvík 1-0 (1-0)
1-0 Charlie Davis 3'

KÍ Klaksvík did unexpectadly well, it must be said, losing by one goal only away to Swedish side Hammarby. - Especially after Hammarby took the lead after only 2 minutes with a headed goal from USA international player Charlie Davies, after a erfect cross from David Johansson. (Tomorrow, Davies travels to America to join the US National Team what will play in the Copa America, which this time takes place in Venezuela.)

But KÍ regrouped and defended well - and they did that in numbers - for the rest of the match. Also goalkeeper Meinhardt Joensen played a fine match for KÍ Klaksvík.

Although the ball was on KÍ Klaksvík's half for most of the game, KÍ had a couple of great scoring opportunities. Just after the half hour mark, Paul Clapson was clear against goal, but shot wide.

And some 10 minutes into the second half, only a fantastic save from Hammarby keeper Erland Hellström prevented KÍ's header from going in.

The Hammarby supportes were clearly not satisfied with their team's prestation and after 70 minutes they started buhing at their own team.

The return leg will be played at Svangaskarð Stadium, Toftir, in the Faroe Islands on Saturday 30 June, at 16:00 (local time) (15:00 GMT).

June 30, 2007: UEFA Intertoto Cup, 1st round, 2nd leg:

KÍ Klaksvík - Hammarby 1-2 (1-1)
0-1 Haris Laitinen
1-1 Kaj Ennigarð
1-2 Paulinho (Pen.)

Hammarby took the lead around 40 minutes into the match when a cross from Haris Laitinen found the back of the net after it had taken a deflection off a KÍ defender.

But KÍ responded shortly after when Hammarby didn't manage to clear away the ball after a corner. Høgni Madsen drilled a shot through the crowd where it was steered in by KÍ's central defender Kaj Ennigarð.

But because of Hammarby's away goal, KÍ still needed to score another 2 to go through.

And that wasn't to be, because hero Kaj Ennigarð became the villain when he made a penalty around 10 minutes into the second half. Paulinho made it 2-1 to Hammarby from the spot, which also became the final result.

All in all, an acceptable result for KÍ Klaksvík, as these one-goal losses are often described.

But KÍ will take heart from these two narrow losses against Hammarby and use it as a catalyst to get back to winning ways in the domestic league where they are living dangerously close to the edge at the moment. On Wednesday they will play the crucial match against AB Argir that will decide if KÍ will drop below the relegation line or not.
