Goalkeeper
Gunnar Nielsen joins
Blackburn Rovers

20 year old Faroe Islands U21 international goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen has signed a two-year contract with Premier League club Blackburn Rovers. This is manager Mark Hughes's first signing of the summer.

Gunnar Nielsen, originally from HB Tórshavn joined Danish 1st division club BK Frem aged 16 where he mostly has been playing for the 2nd team. Gunnar played 5 times for the 1st team.

Gunnar Nielsen has twice been on trial at Premier League clubs in 2007, first at Reading, where an injury made its toll on his performance, and then again in May at Blackburn Rovers, where he impressed manager Mark Hughes:

"He is a very raw talent who hasn't had a great deal of football (soccer, editor) at any kind of level", Mark Hughes told Blackburn Rover's website and added:

"However, in the short time that he was here, he impressed us. The raw material is there, he's a big guy with good physique and looks a natural athlete and a good shape for a goalkeeper."
