May 29, 2005: Round 11 of the Formula 1st Division:

HB Tórshavn win away from home
for the first time this season

TB Tvøroyri - HB Tórshavn 1-2 (1-1)
0-1 Tór-Ingar Akselsen '20
1-1 Óli Johannesen '23
1-2 Rúni Nolsøe '58

HB Tórshavn’s away form has been pretty dismal so far this season, as they, before the match today, hadn’t produced a single victory and not even a draw, except the one against B36 Tórshavn two weeks ago, where B36 Tórshavn was the formal home team, but as HB and B36 share the same stadium, it wasn’t a real away match.

Bur the statistics on the away match-account improved today, when HB visited TB Tvøroyri and beat them 2-1.

Even if TB are near the bottom of the table, they have been very strong at home. Actually, no team has scored against them there, so with HB’s questionable away form, HB expected a difficult match in Tvøroyri.

HB had more of the possession early on, but couldn’t produce any real openings against TB’s stiff defense.

But after 20 minutes HB got a corner. Rasmus Nolsøe swung the ball in front of the TB goal. TB could only half clear and the ball ended with Tór-Ingar Axelsen. Tór-Ingar was quick to cross the ball in front of the TB goal again, but the TB goalkeeper misjudged the situation and suddenly the ball went over him and ended up in the empty goal for a 1-0 lead for HB. Tór-Ingar probably wasn’t trying for a goal, but they still count just a much…

However, it took TB only 3 minutes to reply. TB had a corner and Óli Johannsen, captain of the national team, proved once again that he is the king of high balls, when he equalized with a header.

After that, the match was pretty even for the rest of the first half.

HB had more of the possession in the beginning of the second half. After about a quarter into the second half, HB again shoved their force with set pieces. HB had a free kick on the right and as ever, Rasmus Nolsøe crossed the ball in front of the goal and there Rúni Nolsøe met it with his head and steered it into the goal via the post for a 2-1 lead.

TB tried to press forward and HB goalkeeper Bárður Johannesen had to make a diving save to prevent Emmanuel Larby from scoring.

HB also had attempts of their own with Jakup á Borg shooting from long range, but wide of the goal and Svenn F. Jacobsen missed the target one on one with the keeper in the dying stages.

But HB hold on and can add another 3 points to their tally and stay in front of B36, both with 22 points, but HB have a better goal difference.

The other matches in round 11:

B36 Tórshavn won 2-0 against NSÍ Runavík to stay level with HB at the top. B36 had more of the possession throughout the first half, but couldn’t score however. But NSÍ were reduced to 10 men after 40 minutes, because of a red card, and that effected NSÍ very much in the second half and B36 comfortably beat them 2-0.

GÍ Gøta climbed of the bottom for the first time this season when they beat ÍF Fuglafjørður by 3 goals to 0. GÍ were reduced to 10 men after only about 20 minutes. The score then was 0-0, but that didn’t help ÍF much, who seem to be going from bad to worse for every match. ÍF have now let in 15 goals in four matches and are getting more and more involved in the relegation battle. Not long ago, they were in the other end. GÍ on the other hand look set to get out of the bottom for good.

VB Vágur will have their 100-year anniversary this year, as VB were founded on June 5 1905, but that party might turn into a funeral feast instead, as VB are now placed last in the table after loosing 3-1 at Skála today. Skála are hanging in there, just 3 points adrift of HB and B36. But today’s match showed how cruel soccer can be when VB had a penalty and could have equalized, but they hit the post and instead Skála countered and scored for 2-0. With an equalizer there, VB might have hold on for a draw… who knows…? However, that was not the case, and it is now time for VB to send out the Mayday!

EB/Streymur beat KÍ Klaksvík for the second time in only 19 days thanks to a Hans Pauli Samuelsen goal just 4 minutes from time.
