HB Tórshavn were looking for revenge in the league match against ÍF Fuglafjørður today. Last Thursday, HB were knocked out of the Cup by ÍF, so HB were eager to put the record straight today. They did just that by hammering ÍF with 6 goals to nil.

However, in the first half nothing suggested such a score line.

No, on the contrary ÍF almost made the same shock-start as they made in the Cup on Thursday, when they scored after just 2 minutes. Today time it only took ÍF’s Sylla Amed 1 minute to test the HB goalkeeper, who just managed to avert another catastrophic beginning of the match.

ÍF looked the better team throughout the first half, although they didn’t create many clear-cut chances. The HB defense again looked very uncertain and was giving away to many balls back to the ÍF team.

HB on the other hand didn’t have many attempts on the ÍF goal; maybe one worth reporting back, when Tór-Ingar Axelsen spurted from the ÍF defense, and played the ball across to Heine Fernandez who was 7 centimeters from reaching the ball, which could only have ended up in the goal, if he had reached it.

However, when about 35 minutes had been played, HB got a lucky break. HB had a free kick on the left, 25 meters from the backline and a couple of meters inside the sideline. Jákup á Borg shot the ball into the penalty area, but somehow, the goalkeeper and a defender misunderstood each other and the ball was allowed to slip between them and cross the goal line. 1-0 for HB with a rather funny goal.

In the second half, it didn’t take HB long to increase the lead. Tór-Ingar Axelsen and another HB player were alone with two ÍF defenders. Just when Tór-Ingar was expected to pass the ball to his right, he unleashed a low, well-placed shot from 25 meters, which took the goalkeeper by surprise. A terrific goal from Tór-Ingar, who looks to be in sparkling form.

After this, the ÍF team totally disintegrated and HB could almost score at will. Heine Fernandes made it 3-0 with the head from a cute angle and Rúni Nolsøe made it 4-0 with a long range shot from 23 meters. Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen made it 5 and Heine Fernandes made it 6 with his second. In addition to that, Jákup á Borg could even afford to miss a penalty.

After this win, HB’s home record is still 100% intact, just as their away record is 100% losses. On Monday, May 16, HB will play B36 Tórshavn who are still heading the table, but now with just 1 point down to HB and Skála who are tied at second spot. But if HB is to win the game on Monday, they must tighten their defense, which today was too slack, even if they managed a clean sheet.

The other matches in round 8:

The top match in Skála between Skála and B36 Tórshavn ended in a 1-1 draw, and thereby B36 is still 2 points ahead of Skála who has 15, as have HB Tórshavn after their demolishing of ÍF Fuglafjørður. This sets up a very exciting next round, where B36 play HB for the top spot, as will Skála, when they visit NSÍ Runavík.

TB Tvøroyri climbed to 6th spot after they beat neighbors VB Vágur. If TB keep getting these results, they might survive. At the moment, others looke to be in more troubles than TB.

KÍ Klaksvík’s new coach is already under pressure after KÍ lost to EB/Streymur at home. KÍ is now no. 8 and are only 1 point from the relegation zone.

GÍ Gøta’s match against neighbors NSÍ ended in a stalemate and GÍ can add 1 point to their previous 4. But GÍ will soon have to get some victories if they are going to avoid relegation.
