April 20, 2005: Round 5 of The Formula 1st Division:

HB Tórshavn go top after beating GÍ Gøta 3-1

HB Tórshavn - GÍ Gøta 3-1 (1-0)
1-0 Hans á Lag '8
2-0 Jákup á Borg '67
3-0 Tór-Ingar Akselsen '74
3-1 Símun Louis Jacobsen '90

Things look familiar on the table today. - On top: HB Tórshavn.

However, it will only be until Sunday, when Skála, B36 Tórshavn, ÍF Fuglafjørður and KÍ Klaksvík will have the chance to overtake HB again.

HB’s match was brought forward to today because HB will be in Reykjavík on Sunday playing in the Atlantic Cup against FH Hafnafjørður. The Atlantic Cup is a yearly match played between the champions of Iceland and the champions of the Faroe Islands. Last year, HB Tórshavn beat the Icelandic champions, KR Reykjavík, 3-1. This was the first time the Icelandic Champions were beaten by the Faroese Champions. To be fair to the Icelandic, it should be mentioned that they were probably exhausted after very a long trip to the Faroe Islands. Due to fog, the plane couldn’t land on Friday and they had to return to Iceland and then come back on Saturday, just shortly before the game started. And it was a very weak performance the Icelandic team produced, and HB had no problems winning 3-1 (not to take anything away from HB’s great win :-)

But back to the game today…

HB produced several good chances inside the 20 first minutes. After about 6 minutes, Tór-Ingar Akselsen hit the upright from a corner. Two minutes later, HB had another corner, this time on the right hand side. Somehow, the GÍ defense forgot all about Hans á Lag’s head, as he was completely unmarked, and thus had no problems meeting the corner with a powerful header and steering the ball into the GÍ goal. 1-0 for HB.

HB had other chances in the first 20 minutes, but couldn’t score more goals. The rest of the half was a dull affair, with neither team producing any clear-cut chances. Well, maybe GÍ had one, when the referee forgot to whistle for handling, but the shot from the GÍ player went narrowly wide of the HB goal.

The second half was just as boring as the first. GÍ didn’t create much and HB was only slightly better. But midway through the second half, Jákup á Borg was played free inn the GÍ penalty area and he had no problems scoring to 2-0. This goal killed of GÍ and 15 minutes from the end, Tór-Ingar Axelsen was presented with a gift from the GÍ defense when they played the ball to him and he could easily make it 3-0.

However, just as against TB Tvøroyri last time, HB could not hold a clean sheet this time either, as GÍ was allowed to score a consolation goal in the last minute. That’s a bad habit HB has picked up.

The most important thing today was the 3 points and HB is now on top of the Formula 1st division. – But only until next Sunday, though.

If HB is to beat Icelandic champions FH Hafnafjørður on Sunday in the Atlantic Cup, they will have to improve considerably in both defense and attack.

Today defender Hans á Lag played as a forward again and although he scored a goal, this solution is not going to work in the long run. Forwards should play in attack and defenders in defense!

The other matches in round 5 are played on Sunday, April 24:

The other matches in round 5:

B36 Tórshavn won the top match against KÍ Klaksvík with 2 goals to 1 and this means that B36 now top the Formula 1st Division, 1 point ahead of HB Tórshavn, who played their match against GÍ Gøta on Wednesday, because of their match against the champions of Iceland, HF Hafnafjørður, in the Atlantic Cup today.

Skála lost for the first time this season as they went down to VB Vágur.

After last week’s dismal display against HB Tórshavn, TB Tvøroyri answered the critics in the best possible way by hammering EB/Streymur 3-0
