March 28, 2005: Round 1 of the Formula 1st Division:

HB Tórshavn start another season with a loss

KÍ Klaksvík – HB Tórshavn 4-3 (3-2)
0-1 Hans á Lag '2
1-1 Erling Fles '5
1-2 Tór-Ingar Akselsen '11
2-2 Atli Danielsen '21
3-2 Erling Fles '41
4-2 Hjalgrím Elttør '76
4-3 Tór-Ingar Akselsen (pen.) '88

Just like last year, HB lost their opening game of the season, when they lost 4-3 away to arch rivals KÍ.

However, things looked different when Hans á Lag put HB in front after only 2 minutes, after the KÍ keeper couldn’t clear a corner.

But it took only 3 minutes for KÍ to equalize, when some slack defending allowed Hjalgrím Elttør to cross to Erling Fles who scored from close range.

Six minutes later HB had restored the lead with a great goal from Tór-Ingar Akselsen, albeit with some help of a wicked deflection of a KÍ defender, when Tór-Ingar shot from long distance. But you create our own luck, they say, and that’s what Tór-Ingar did, when he received the ball on midfield, and then went directly at the goal, surging past several defenders with perfect balance and ball-control and then lashed on to the ball, which eventually ended up in the KÍ goal.

However, HB again forgot to concentrate in defense, and that lead to another KÍ goal only 10 minutes later, when Atli Danielsen was played clear in front of goal. Again HB had been caught.

And things went from bad to worse 4 minutes before half time, when KÍ could score to 3-2 after a blunder on the HB-midfield.

KÍ scored again to 4-2 after 76 minutes and again the HB defense looked rather passive.

That decided the match, although Tór-Ingar Akselsen reduced the deficit to 4-3 on penalty, after a KÍ defender had saved with his hands. That was just two minutes from time.

So, a disappointing start for HB to the 2005 season, but the philosophical HB supporters will be soon to point out, that HB also lost its first match last season, but that that was indeed the only match they lost… so things look bright :-)

On a serious note, though, HB will have to improve in defense, if they are going to win the league again this year – no. 4 in succession, if that is to be the case…

The other matches in round 1:

With new recruits Fróði Benjaminsen and goalkeeper Jákup Mikkselsen, both international players, B36 has been considered as one of the favorites for the title this year, but just being “considered” is of course not enough, because only the results on the pitch will count, and that result showed 0 goals for B36 and 1 for NSÍ, after their meeting in their opening fixture of the 2005 season. Christian Høgni Jacobsen scored NSÍ’s goal in the second half.

Last year’s surprise, Skála, demolished newly promoted TB 5-1.

ÍF was away to VB and beat them 1-0.

EB/Streymur visited GÍ and took all 3 points with a late goal from Hans Pauli Samuelsen.
