May 04 - 06, 2008: Round 06 of the Formula Division:

May 04:

ÍF Fuglafjørður - B71 Sandoy 3-0 (2-0)
1-0 Bartal Eliasen
2-0 Bartal Eliasen
3-0 Nenad Saric

With 2 men suspended, ÍF had decided to move usual central defender Bartal Eliasen up front, and that proved to be a wice decision as he put ÍF 2-0 up within 25 minutes. B71 showed very little, and around the one hour-mark, Nenad Saric killed the game when he made it 3-0.

B71 improved slightly for a while, although ÍF's win was never in any doubt what so ever, but midway through the 2nd half, Brazilian Wellington Soares pulled one back for B71. ÍF's impressive run continues, but the points have come against the lesser teams. But ÌF will have a chance to prove what they are made of when they visit EB/Streymur in the next round, which is not played before May 18th and 19th (Cup semifinals are played on Monday, May 12th).

B71 have now dropped below the relegation line again. Especially their away form is poor: played 4, lost 4, but B71 will think they can justify their existence at home. So far they haven't lost, although they have only played 2 matches (won 1, drawn 1). B71 take on B68 next, which will be a massive game for both of these relegation threatened teams.

B36 Tórshavn - Skála 0-0

The result says it all: Boring, boring boring!

Poor play and very few scoring opportunities, although Skála will not mind getting a point.

This was the 3rd scoreless match of the season after only 6 rounds. Last season, in comparison, there were only 3 scoreless matches in total for the entire season. And it's not only a coincident, because we are seeing many teams put a lot of weight on defending this season.

B68 Toftir - KÍ Klaksvík 1-1 (0-0)
0-1 Heðin á Lakjuni
1-1 Jóhan Símun Edmundsson

An even match with a justified result. That'll be the verdict for an even match were few clear-cut scoring opportunities were created.

KÍ took the lead with a header midway through the 2nd half with a header from Heðin á Lakjuni. But B68 managed to get an equalizer 10 minutes from time with a header from 17-year old Jóhan Símun Edmundsson.

B68's main problem is scoring goals. So far, it's 4 goals in 6 games. That could prove fatal in the end, because you don't get wins without scoring.

KÍ play 3 of their next 4 matches at home and should add some points to their tally, but it'll be difficult to move higher than 6th position, as ÍF in 5th place have a healthy margin of 5 points down to KÍ.

May 05:

NSÍ Runavík – EB/Streymur 0-2 (0-1)
0-1 Hanus Eliasen
0-2 Arnbjørn Hansen

2007 champions, NSÍ, are struggling to keep up with the pace at the top of the table, and today they lost 2-0 to EB/Streymur, who take (provisional) 1st place in the table (HB play on Tuesday).

After an even start to the match, EB/Streymur gradually got the upper hand and took the lead after 27 minutes with a header from Hanus Eliasen in connection with a set piece.

NSÍ rallied towards the end of the half, but EB/Streymur held firm.

After 10 minutes of the 2nd half, Arnbjørn Hansen all but decided the match when his header made it 2-0 for EB/Streymur. Again the goal was after a set piece. This was 22-year-old Hansen's 6th goal in 6 league matches.

Although EB/Streymur missed central defender Egil á Bø, they had no problems in defence, as usual forward, Rumanian Sorin Anghel, took his place in defence, and Anghel is one of THE best defenders in the Formula Division.

After the 2nd goal, NSÍ never looked able to stage any fight back.

NSÍ face another stiff test when they visit HB in the next round (May 18), and a loss there could mean that they'll be trailing HB and EB/Streymur with 7 points (depending on HB beating Víkingur tomorrow and EB/Streymur beating ÍF in the next round).

May 06:

Víkingur – HB Tórshavn 0-0

For the 3rd match in succession, HB failed to score, and the only positive thing is that they haven't let any goal in at the other end at the same time. Unofficially, it must be decades – if it has ever happened - since HB haven't scored a single goal in 3 league-matches in succession.

And really, with their display this evening, it's not so strange they're not scoring, because especially HB's midfield seem to lack creativity to create the scoring opportunities.

Víkingur got off to a bright start and were frequent guests around the HB-penalty area throughout the first half, but rarely did they create any real danger, as the crosses never connected with the target man in front of goal. On one occasion, a bouncing square ball could have produced a goal, but attackers and defenders alike failed to connect with the ball which slowly bounced across the face of goal.

But is was HB who got the best chance in the fist half when a cross ended in front of Hendrik Rubeksen (who deputized for the injured Andrew av Fløtum in the attack), but although in front of the keeper with a clear goal, he somehow squandered the opportunity.

Apart from that, HB didn't have many other opportunities in the first half.

Early in the second half, Hendrik Rubeksen was given another good chance to put HB in front with a free header, but the ball went over the goal.

About a quarter of an hour into the half, Andreas Lava Olsen had an even better chance to put Víkingur in front, but right in front of goal, he missed.

Towards the end, HB finally managed to put some consistent pressure on Víkingur and went close when first Christian Høgni Jacobsen forced Víkingur-goalkeeper Geza Turi to make a diving save from which the ball rebounded to Kári Nielsen, who hit the crossbar.

But after another failed attack from HB, Víkingur countered with full speed and could have snatched victory at the end, but HB-goalkeeper Tróndur Vatnhamar made a fine save from Finnur Justinussen's low shot from the right hand side of the penalty area.

In the end, a draw seemed to be a fair result for an even match with few clear-cut chances. This was the 4th scoreless draw of the season, and as mentiones above, last season there were only 3 of those in total during the entire 27round-season.

HB play B36 in the 2nd leg of the Cup semifinal on Monday 12 May, before they take on NSÍ on 18 May in the 7th round of the league. - A match between two teams with scoring-problems, but also a match between two teams that very much will want to get 3 points in order not to drop too far behind table-toppers EB/Streymur.
