April 28 & 29, 2007: Round 06 of the Formula Division:

EB/Streymur still on top, but B36 Tórshavn leapfrog NSÍ Runavík, as NSÍ are beaten by HB Tórshavn, who go 4th

April 28, 2007:

B36 Tórshavn - AB Argir 4-1 (2-0)
There was to be no repeat of the Cup-match in March, when AB surprised B36 with a 3-1 win, because this time B36 killed the game after only 7 minutes with a brace from Ivorian striker Sylla, who both times was set up by Hanus Thorleifsson. Although B36 were down to 10 men early in the second half, when defender Kenneth Jacobsen was sent off for a second yellow card, B36's win was never in question, and midway in the second half, B36 made it 3-0 with a penalty from Fróði Benjaminsen. Late in the game, Sylla completed his hat-trick, when he was played throug by Brazilian Alex dos Santos. AB got a late consolation with a Fróði Clementsen header, after a corner. After today's win, B36 head the table, 1 point ahead of EB/Streymur and NSÍ Runavík, who tomorrow play against KÍ Klaksvík and HB Tórshavn, respectively.

B36 Tórshavn - AB Argir 2-0 (2-0)
1-0 Amed Davy Sylla
2-0 Ahmed Davy Sylla
3-0 Fróði Benjaminsen (Pen.)
4-0 Ahmed Davy Sylla
4-1 Fróði Clementsen

April 29, 2007:

HB Tórshavn - NSÍ Runavík 2-0 (0-0)
1-0 Mortan úr Hørg
2-0 Rógvi Jacobsen

Caution seemed to be the tactics for both teams in Gundadalur Stadium today, but whereas NSÍ seemed completely toothless in attack and never bothered the HB goalkeeper during the entire match, HB still managed to create a host of opportunities – and although HB didn't score before the clock had reached the last quarter of an hour, the victory was well deserved.

Nothing happened in the first 15 minutes, but then the matched opened up just a little bit (but don't be fooled; it was not end to end stuff).

Christian Høgni Jacobsen was close for HB when the ball almost went in after it had bounced off the back of NSÍ goalkeeper Jens Martin Knudsen.

At the other end, Andy Olsen's looping header dropped down on the roof of the net, but it didn't cause any real danger for HB. NSÍ also had a couple of teasing low crosses, where a long NSÍ-toe could have made the damage, but however, NSÍ didn't have any long toe today. NSÍ was without Brazilian striker Anderson Castilho (who has already made 2 hat-tricks so far this season) through injury, but it's doubtful if he would have made that much of a difference today, as NSÍ's tactichs didn't allow much support for their forwards today.

But at the other end, HB had real scoring opportunities. Christian Høgni Jacobsen went close, but Jens Martin Knudsen made a diving save and averted the ball behind the goal. Later HB went close again, when Mortan úr Hørg headed over Jens Martin Knudsen, but the ball was scraped off the line by an NSÍ defender. And then Rókur av fløtum Jespersen tried with a long range effort, but the ball smashed off the crossbar, when Jens Martin Knudsen was well beaten.

NSÍ made some changes at halftime and this seemed to make NSÍ just a little bit more aggressive for a while, but however, NSÍ still never managed to create any clear-cut opportunity. A couple of times HB gave the ball away in midfield rather carelessly and their defense almost got caught, but no real worries there for HB either.

And at the other end HB again created clear cut opportunities. Once Christian Høgni Jacobsen brilliantly played Jákup á Borg clear a bit to the left of the goal, but his shot went straight on the legs of Jens Martin Knudsen, when he should have done better, albeit the angle was a bit tight.

A bit later, Jens Martin Knudsen again had to be alert to prevent a free kick from Rasmus Nolsøe from going in.

But when the clock had started on its last quarter of an hour, HB finally managed to sneak the ball into the NSÍ goal. HB had a corner on the left which NSÍ didn't manage to clear away, and the ball then fell to right back Mortan úr Hørg, who headed HB into the lead.

NSÍ had no response, and instead HB doubled their lead 4 minutes from time. Rógvi Jacobsen played the ball to Jákup á Borg on the right flank, and he crossed the ball back to Rógvi Jacobsen who was now inside the penalty area where he rose above the defenders to powerfully head the ball on the underside of the crossbar and into the goal for 2-0 to HB.

With the 3 points, HB climbed to 4 place, still 5 points adrift of EB/Streymur, but NSÍ drops from 2nd to 3rd, 2 points in front of HB. HB should climb even higher the next couple of rounds, as they play against lowly VB/Sumba and AB Argir. Next round is on Wednesday. NSÍ will visit EB/Streymur on Wednesday in a match where NSÍ must prove if they mean business or not this season. So far, NSÍ have been rather poor away from home; something they'll have to improve on, if they intend to get any silverware.

KÍ Klaksvík – EB/Streymur 1-2 (0-2)
EB/Streymur clawed back the top spot in the table, which B36 had borrowed for 24 hours, with a 2-1 victory over KÍ Klaksvík. EB/Streymur got the first after only 3 minutes of play. Half an hour into the match, EB/Streymur again showed how lethal they are on set-pieces, when a free kick kick from long way out was knocked into the penalty area which resulted in a goal, albeit it was an owngoal in the end. KÍ got a late consolation in stoppage-time.

B71 Sandoy – GÍ Gøta 1-1 (0-0)
B71 keep scraping points together, and today they added one to their tally with a 1-1 draw against GÍ. But B71 could have killed the game in the first half, but they missed a whole host of clear-cut opportunities, as they couldn't get past Geza Turiin the GÍ goal. Instead it was GÍ who took the lead after only a couple of minutes into the 2nd half, but B71 equalized almost immediately. B71 are now 8 points in front of AB Argir in 8th place and at the moment don't look like a team that will be in danger of relegation.

VB/Sumba – Skála 0-1 (0-0)
After Skála sacked their coach 2 weeks ago, they won their second match in succession when they beat VB/Sumba 1-0. Goal scorer was Serbian player Slavisa Kaplanovic. This shows how quickly things can turn in soccer, because 2 rounds ago, Skála were rooted to the bottom of the table without a point, but now they are suddenly 2 points above safety. And they have another chance for 3 more points on Wednesday when B71 will visit. But VB/Sumba's troubles seem to continues, and with games against HB Tórshavn and EB/Streymur next on the card, VB/Sumba aren't likely to change that position anything soon. EB/Streymur will face a real test on Wednesday, when they visit NSÌ Runavík, who last season twice beat EB/Streymur.
