April 15, 2007: Round 04 of the Formula Division:

HB Tórshavn fall 8 points
behind leaders EB/Streymur, as B36 and HB draw

B36 Tórshavn – HB Tórshavn 1-1 (0-0)
1-0 Ove Nysted
1-1 Rógvi Jacobsen

HB Tórshavn was positioned with the back against the wall before today's derby with B36 Tórshavn, because a loss for HB would mean they would go 9 points behind EB/Streymur, if EB/Streymur would overcome B71 Sandoy. – EB/Streymur won, but HB did not, but drew 1-1, and are already 8 points adrift of runaway leaders, EB/Streymur, only 4 matches into the season.

But HB, mysteriously so, never gave the impression that this was a match they had to win, as it appeared that their tactics first and foremost was that they should not lose the match.

From the word go, HB were overrun by B36 who dominated the first 20-25 minutes completely. Especially B36's Ivorian forward, Sylla, created havoc in HB's defense with his brilliant skills and dribbles, as did quick Brazilian left back, Alex dos Santos, whose curling crosses, which sometimes were swerving shots, were always dangerous.

11 minutes into the match, B36 came close when an unmarked Fróði Benjaminsen received the ball on the edge of the penalty area, but his volley was straight on the goalkeeper, when he should have done better.

HB on the other hand created nothing what so ever and were very rare guests on B36's half in the first 25 minutes. But after that, the match evened out. Not because HB improved considerably, but more because B36 eased the pressure.

However, it was HB who came closest to scoring, when Hans á Lag's header from a corner hit the crossbar. Páll Mohr Joensen also had a good opportunity in the first half, when Jákup á Borg, who for once had come to the byline, played the ball in front of goal, but B36 managed to divert the shot from Páll to a corner.

B36 also had a good opportunity in the last minute of the first half when a long ball was played into HB's penalty area, where Allan Mørkøre and goalkeeper Marcin David raced for it. Allan hit the ball, which went just wide of the goal, but at the same time, Allan was injured in the collision with the goalkeeper and was driven to the hospital with an ambulance (broken nose).

In the second half, B36 had the upper hand in the beginning, although they didn't create too many opportunities. But however, they did get the goal about halfway into the second half. After a corner, the loose ball fell to Ove Nysted, who had just come on, and he shot the ball into goal.

HB then finally managed to put some pressure on B36, and about 10-15 minutes from the end, they found an equalizer, after Christian Høgni Jacobsen from the byline had dribbled into the goal area where he lost he ball and the danger seemed to be over at first, but the ball broke to Rógvi Jacobsen who fired the ball into the back of the net.

From then on, it was more HB who were on the attack, and once Christian Høgni Jacobsen was one on one with Jákup Mikkelsen in the B36 goal, but the goalkeeper was quick out of his goal to block the shot.

With 1 point apiece, HB still have the back against the wall, as they now trail leaders EB/Streymur, who still have a 100% record, with 8 points. Although HB also trailed EB/Streymur by 8 points late in last season, but overtook them just 2 minutes from the end of the season, it will be very difficult to win back that margin again this season. Next Sunday HB entertain KÍ Klaksvík, and only 3 points is an option for HB, if they still dream about retaining the title in 2007. B36 play away to leaders EB/Streymur. A win for B36 will cut the difference to only 2 points.

The other matches in round 04:

B71 Sandoy – EB/Streymur 2-3 (1-2)
EB/Streymur opened up a 3 point gap to followers NSÍ Runavík, who lost to KÍ Klaksvík. EB/Streymur made a dream start to the game when defender and captain Egil á Bø score after just 1 minute. And 10 minutes later EB/Streymur doubled their lead after a penalty from Ronnie Samuelsen. At this stage, it looked like B71 were going to get a real hammering. But B71 have already proved that they can come back from 2 goals down and just 5 minutes after the penalty, B71 had reduced the score after EB/Streymur's goalkeeper fumbled the ball after a cross (shot?) from way out. For the rest of the half, it was B71 who dominated and came close to the equalizer on several occasions. But after the break, EB/Streymur improved again and restored the 2-goal margin on the hour-mark. However, 15 minutes from time, B71 reduced the score once more with a penalty, but however, EB/Streymur held on to the lead, even though EB/Streymur were down to 10 men after John Heri Dam was shown off late in the match. Next Sunday, EB/Streymur will face their stiffest test so far, when thy take on B36. Although B71 lost, they don't look like a relegation-team at the moment and should have a very good chance to stay in the division.

KÍ Klaksvík – NSÍ Runavík 2-0 (1-0)
NSÍ lost their 100% record against unpredictable KÍ. KÍ was the better team for most of the match and Paul Clapson scored both goals for KÍ, one in each half. The closest NSÍ came was when they hit the crossbar early in the first half. KÍ also had a shot on the woodwork in the second half. But all in all a deserved victory for KÍ Klaksvík who play away to HB Tórshavn next week. – A match KÍ has only won about 4 times the last 40 years (this is a guesstimate, not fact). NSÍ will look to get back on track against strugglers VB/Sumba next Sunday. But if NSÍ really mean to challenge for the title this season, they'll have to perform much better when they play away against mid-table teams like KÍ.

Skála – AB Argir 0-2 (0-0)
Skála lie rooted to the bottom with 0 points after 4 matches after today's loss to fellow "relegation-candidates" AB Argir, and the alarm clocks should now be ringing in Skála. When teams first fall behind in the table, it seems to be very difficult to ever get out of the misery again. With the 3 points, AB leapfrogged VB/Sumba into the lifesaving 8 place. Likely, the relegation will be kept between these 3 clubs (Skála, VB/Sumba and AB).

VB/Sumba – GÍ 0-1 (0-0)
After a deservedly GÍ win, VB/Sumba are back in the relegation zone, where they'll also stay after next round, when they visit NSÍ Runavík, but then they'll hope to win against Skála the week after, in what will be a crucial match for both of the teams. The head to heads between VB/Sumba, AB and Skála, will be a decisive factor in the relegation battle. VB/Sumba have been quite good to get results from those key matches the last 2 seasons, and that'll maybe save them once again…
