September 17, 2006: Round 23 of the Formula Division:

EB/Streymur close in on title as B36 Tórshavn lose to ÍF Fuglafjørður

HB Tórshavn – KÍ Klaksvík 5-1 (2-0)
1-0 Tór-Ingar Akselsen
2-0 Jákup á Borg
3-0 Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen
4-0 Rógvi Jacobsen
4-1 Owngoal
5-1 Kári Nielsen

Without having to impress, HB won a comfortable and easy 5-1 victory over KÍ Klaksvík who lost away from home for the first time this season.

HB scored the opener after only 2 minutes when they took advantage of a sleeping KÍ-defense with a quick free kick which ended at the feet of Tór-Ingar Akselsen who put the ball in the back of the net.

Midway into the first half, HB made it 2-0 when Páll Mohr Joensen played Jákup á Borg clear with a through-ball, and he then rounded the keeper and doubled HB's lead.

KÍ didn't create many scoring opportunities in the first half. The closest they came was from a looping shot which the goalkeeper and the crossbar saved together. Veteran Marek Wierzbicki also had a good thunderous long range effort that went just wide of the right post.

In the second half, KÍ came close to reducing the score when Paul Clapson headed the ball on the crossbar after a corner.

Instead, HB made it both 3-0 and 4-0. 15 minutes into the second half, Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen turned, waited, aimed and fired a low shot into the bottom left corner from the edge of the penalty area. Rógvi Jacobsen made it 4 from close range.

KÍ did get on the score sheet but they needed a helping hand, or leg rather, when Rasmus Nolsøe turned KÍ's free-kick into his own goal. He usually does that at the other end, though.

Shortly before the final whistle, Kári Nielsen made it 5-1 for HB.

As B36 Tórshavn lost to ÍF Fuglafjørður, HB takes second place in the table, 1 point in front of B36 in 3rd. They meet next Sunday in the Tórshavn derby.

EB/Streymur – Skála 2-0 (0-0)
EB/Streymur took a gigantic step towards the title with a 2-0 victory over in-form Skála and made the most out of B36's surprising loss against ÍF. EB/Streymur are now 7 points in front of no. 2, HB, with only 4 games left. EB/Streymur dominated the match from start to finish, but didn't score until the second half. But then it took only 32 seconds for Sorin Anghel to find the goal. After having scored two goals against B68 in round 15, Sorin seemed to have problems finding the goal again, as he didn't score in the next four matches. The couch then placed him in the defence for the next game against NSÍ in round 21, and there he seemingly found out how forwards are supposed to beat defenders, because in the next round (round 22 against VB/Sumba) he score 2 goals and got another one today. So maybe that was the cure. Right back Gert Hansen headed in EB/Streymur's second after a free kick some 10-15 minutes fron the end.

NSÍ Runavík – GÍ Gøta 4-2 (3-1)
After having lost 4 matches in a row, NSÍ quickly decided today's match by taking a 3-0 lead just halfway into the first half. Although GÍ shortly after reduced the score with a direct free kick from Sámal Joensen, there was never any doubt about the result. In the second half Andy Olsen put NSÍ 4-1 up with a penalty, before Sámal Joensen scored his second 15 minutes from the end. Christian Høgni Jacoben, who scored 2 in the first half, missed a penalty for NSÍ to miss his hat-trick shortly before the final whistle.

B68 Toftir – VB/Sumba 6-1 (0-0)
Before the match today, VB/Sumba looked relatively safe in staying in the Formula division, being 5 points in front of both B68 and ÍF, but after losing 6-1 to B68, they could very well be overtaken by ÍF already on Wednesday, or at least on Sunday, if ÍF manage to win either of their two games against GÍ and VB/Sumba. Today VB/Sumba were only interested in defending and that worked in the first half, but when B68 then scored on a penalty 15 minutes into the second half, VB/Sumba were given a 6-1 spanking. But B68 still will find it very difficult to avoid relegation.

ÍF Fuglafjørður – B36 Tórshavn 2-1 (1-1)
As B36 knew that in-form Skála could possibly take points from EB/Streymur, B36 were still hoping to catch EB/Streymur, but that hope faded away in a surprise loss against bottom team ÍF. But for ÍF, the 3 points could become invaluable, as they are now only 2 points adrift of VB/Sumba in the life-saving 8th place and with a game in hand against GÍ, which will be played on Wednesday. And then they play against VB/Sumba (a)on Sunday in a game that could decide the fate of both clubs.
