July 09 and August 23, 2006: Round 16 of the Formula Division:

EB/Streymur open up a 5 point-gap

July 09:

GÍ Gøta - EB/Streymur 0-2 (0-1)
EB/Streymur opened up a 5 pont-gap in the top of the table as they beat GÍ Gøta by 2 goals to 0. EB/Streymur is full of confidence and it doesn't look like anybody is capable of stopping them at the moment. Next round (Wednesday) they play ÍF, which should produce 3 more points and then EB/Streymur will be 5 points clear at the top when the league takes a short summer break. – It starts again on August 5 and then EB/Streymur will have 4 tough games in a row against KÍ (a), HB (h), B36 (a) and NSÍ (h). If EB/Streymur do well in these games, then they'll be very close to clinching the title come October 21. GÍ are slipping fast down the table as they how now only won 1 of their last 6 matches. 3 draws and 1 victory in 6 games aren't going to keep them in a medal-position.

KÍ Klaksvík - Skála 2-1 (1-0)
KÍ are up to second spot in the table after their win victory over Skála today (KÍ have however played 2 more matches than B36 and NSÍ and 1 more than the rest of the field). Sinisa Jovanovic demonstrated his force in the air when he headed in the first and Christian Lundberg did what he as been hired to do when he doubled KÍ's lead in the seconf half. Although Skála reduced the score late in the game, KÍ's victory was never in any danger.

VB/Sumba - HB Tórshavn 1-1 (1-0)
HB's miserable statistics in Vágur continues as HB could only draw with VB/Sumba. Since HB won in 1988, HB have only won 3 times in 19 outings away to VB (now VB/Sumba). Last season, HB lost 4 points away to VB; the 4 points that HB were short of the title in the end…

Today HB dominated the match from start to finish, but they just couldn't find the back of the net. But against run of play, VB/Sumba took a surprise lead after only 10 minutes when HB were hit on the break. Birgir Jørgensen set up Palli Augustinussen for the goal.

Marcin Dawid played a great game in the VB/Sumba goal to keep HB at bay and it wasn't until midway into the second half that HB managed to equalize after a controversial penalty which the referee awarded HB after Jákup á Borg went down in the penalty area. Vagnur Mohr Mortensen scored from the spot.

HB have taken just 2 out of 12 possible points in their last 4 matches and are losing ground on the leaders and are left 8 points adrift of EB/Streymur. Maybe HB's busy match schedule of late with the Intertoto Cup matches is now taking its toll on the table.

On a positive note for HB, they announced earlier in the week that Rógvi Jacobsen is returning from Iceland, where he has played for KR Reykjavík from 2005 until now. Rógvi, who came from KÍ Klaksvík in 2001, helped HB secure the championships in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Rógvi will be ready for HB on Sunday, when they take on B68 at home.

B68 Toftir - ÍF Fuglafjørður 1-1 (1-1)
B68 Toftir announced just before this important match that they had parted company with coach Jóannes Jacobsen. Both clubs were in desperate need of 3 points and after today's draw, both still are, as they are both placed below the relegation-line, in 9th and 10th position in the table. B68 took the lead half an hour into the match, but ÍF levelled the score the minute after with a penalty.

August 23:
B36 Tórshavn - NSÍ Runavík:
The match between B36 Tórshavn and NSÍ Runavík has been postponed until August 23 because of B36's involvement in the Champions League.
