May 10-11, 2006: Round 08 of the Formula Division:

EB/Streymur still hold on to their lead after drawing with KÍ Klaksvík

NSÍ Runavík – Skála 2-1 (1-0)
NSÍ are closing in on the leaders with their 3rd win in 4 games and are now only 3 points behind EB/Streymur, who held on to their lead with a draw against KÍ Klaksvík. With yet another defeat, Skála are dangerously close to the relegation places, and are only in front of B68 Toftir in 9th place because of a better goal difference. In the next round, Skála take on ÍF, who got their first points of the season this evening, and there Skála will have to get a result if they are to keep ÍF behind them. On a brighter side, Skála had midfielder Pauli G. Hansen back from injury, and as other injured players get back, Skála will surely climb up the table.

ÍF Fuglafjørður – B68 Toftir 3-0 (1-0)
ÍF Fuglafjørður finally made their mark on the table with a crucial 3-0 win over fellow strugglers, B68 Toftir. They only used 4 minutes to get the first goal and just 3 minutes into the second half, they made it 2-0 and when ÍF then scored their 3rd another 4 minutes later, the points were always going to stay with ÍF. Now, there is suddenly hope again, and if they win over Skála on Sunday May 21, they'll leapfrog Skála. – But only if they win… After a promising start to the season, B68 seem to be going from bad to worse and their situation is looking grimmer and grimmer. But it is tight in the bottom, as only 3 points separate the last 4 teams.

EB/Streymur – KÍ Klaksvík 1-1 (1-1)
EB/streymur held on to their 1 point lead on the table after drawing 1-1 with KÍ Klaksvík. EB/Streymur took the lead after only 4 minutes with a Sorin Anghel goal. Half an hour into the game, KÍ's Paul Clapson lost his temper and received the red card. – His second of the season. However, KÍ equalized with a man in deficit only 7 minutes later, when Serbian player, Sinisa Jovanic, in his second game, headed the ball into the goal after a corner. Some 10 minutes into the second half, EB/Streymur were also reduced to 10 men, when John Heri Dam received his second yellow. KÍ, who still haven't lost, stay in second place, 1 point adrift of EB/Streymur and 1 ahead of B36 and GÍ who also drew this evening.

B36 Tórshavn – GÍ Gøta 0-0 (0-0)
B36 and GÍ shared one point and the 3rd spot on the table after today's goalless draw. They also shared the halfs this evening, as it was GÍ who dominated the first half and B36 the second. GÍ had a few opportunities in the first half, but either they didn't hit the target or keeper Jákup Mikkelsen stood in their way. B36 had their first shot on goal after 60 minutes! – But then it was all B36. Three times they hit the crossbar; once from Símin Hansen and twice from Alex dos Santos.

HB Tórshavn - VB/Sumba 4-1 (2-0)
HB closed the gap on the leaders, EB/Streymur, to only 3 points with an easy win over VB/Sumba.

That it takes two good teams to create a good soccer match was very evident today, as VB/Sumba had nothing to show for. – VB/Sumba scored a consolation goal 4 minutes from time after a corner, and 2 minutes later, Dan Djurhuus was one on one with the HB keeper who made an excellent save. – Apart from those 2 incidents, VB/Sumba created zilch!

HB scored the first goal a quarter of an hour into the match, when Jovan Radinovic-Panic was played through on the left and he squared the ball to a blank Johan Ejvind R. Mouritsen right in front of the goal, who just had to tap it into the goal. This was Mourtitsen's 4th goal of the season, but remarkably, he has only played for 285 minutes in total, as he has come on as a sub in all the previous 7 games, but today he was in the starting line-up.

HB made it 2-0 in injury time in the first half. This time it was Jovan Radinovic-Panic who could tap it in from a clear position in front of goal for his first goal for HB , after he received the ball from the right.

HB were a bit more lively in the second half and played more quickly and created more opportunities than in the first, but their finishing wasn't too effective.

But midway into the second half, HB made it 3-0. Jákup á Borg on the right provided the ball to a free Ólavur í Ólavstovu who had the simplest of tasks to put it into the goal for his first goal for HB.

Páll Mohr Joensen, HB

Just a few minutes from the end, HB made their sometimes sloppy defense evident again, when they allowed VB/Sumba to score after a corner.

VB/Sumba nearly scored again, but Bárður Johannesen blocked the shot from a clear Dan Djurhuus .

However, it was HB who scored another goal deep into injury time, when a ball was played to Páll Mohr Joensen outside the penalty area on the right, and he fired a low diagonal shot into the far side of the goal for a 4-1 victory.

Páll Mohr Joensen, HB Tórshavn

With the 3 points, HB closed the gap on leaders EB/Streymur to only 3 points. No games will be played in the Formula Division this coming weekend as the national team plays against Poland in a friendly, but next Sunday, HB travels to Toftir to play B68. Another 3 points are expected there…
