May 5, 2005: The Cup Competition - Quarterfinals:

HB Tórshavn is ousted from the Cup
by ÍF Fuglafjørður

HB Tórshavn - ÍF Fuflafjørður 0-1 (0-1)
0-1 Sylla Amed Davy '2

Last year, HB Tórshavn won 3 trophies: the domestic Cup and League Championship and the Atlantic Cup. – Five days into May this year, HB have already lost 2 of these trophies again: the Cup today, when they lost 1-0 to ÍF Fuglafjørður in the quarter final, and the Atlantic Cup was lost 11 days ago. But more importantly, if HB keep playing like they did today against ÍF Fuglafjørður, then they will also lose the League title before long…

ÍF Fuglafjørður only needed 2 minutes to get in front in the match played in Gundadalur Stadium today, thanks to a Sylla goal. And ÍF had no problems defending this lead for the rest of the half, as HB created nothing. Not one decent chance was created. Well, except one maybe, when the referee decided to give Tór-Ingar Akselsen a penalty, when he was challenging an ÍF defender and fell. It looked a cheap penalty. Tór-Ingar stepped up to take it himself, but blasted the shot well over the crossbar. Justice was probably done… And once, again it was proved that the player which has been fouled should not take the penalty himself. Too often, they miss!

The second half wasn’t much better for HB. In the first 20-25 minutes, they created no chances, but when playing coach Heine Fernandez (his second entrance since coming back from injury) entered the field, HB finally managed to put some pressure on ÍF. For the most, this pressure was from long and high balls played into the ÍF penalty area, but HB was never closer than “almost” to get the equalizing goal.

Overall, it was a dismal performance HB put on today and a deserved victory for ÍF. Although HB had most of the possession, they created between nil and nothing. And as long as HB play with a forward as right back and with a right back as forward, they can not possibly expect to do any better than they did today. The old recipe of just kicking the ball up to the big man in the box is too easy to defend.

The other matches in the Cup quarterfinals:

Two second division clubs have qualified for the semifinals in the Cup competition. B71 Sandoy from the second division knocked first divison club TB Tvøroyri out of the Cup the by winning 4-2 after extra time. The scoreline after 90 minutes was 2-2. In extra time B71 scored twice to take an unexpected place in the semifinals.

B68 Toftir from the second division won 2-1 over Fram Tórshavn from the third division. However, the half-time score was 1-0 to Fram. Fram originally lost 7-1 to KÍ Klaksvík, but because KÍ were expelled from the Cup because of some “mishaps” with the paperwork, Fram were reinstated.

The other reinstated team, Skála - who had originally lost to B36 Tórshavn, who later were expelled due to the same reasons as KÍ Klaksvík – lost their quarterfinal match at GÍ Gøta. GÍ won 3 -1 with two of their goals coming from free kicks.

The semifinals will be played July 6 and July 24:

July 6:
B71 Sandoy - GÍ Gøta
ÍF Fuglafjørður - B68 Toftir

July 24:
