The Faroe Islands get their
first point of the World Cup
qualifying campaign with
a 1-1 draw with Kazakhstan

Faroe Islands - Kasakhstan 1-1 (1-0)
1-0 Hallur Hansson 41'
1-1 Andrey Finonchenko 55'

After Kazakhstan had threatened just a little bit more in the first quarter of an hour, Jóan Símun Edmundsson so nearly gave the home-team the lead with a header just wide from close range.

On the half-hour, Christian Lamhauge Holst rounded the Kazakhstan keeper who was still able to save Holst’s effort from the acute angle.

But the magic moment arrived after 40 minutes after a beautiful move by the Faroes where they move the ball from left to right and where Edmundsson in the end with a terrific back-heel set up Hallur Hansson who fired an unstoppable bulled from the distance and straight into the top corner. They don’t come better!

The Faroese defence looked a bit shaky in the minutes before half-time and a scramble could have turned costly, but the Faroes survived the scare.

The visitors threatened early on in the second half with a shot across the face of goal, an after 53 minutes a deflected shot earned Kazakhstan a corner which following a scramble crossed the line for an equalizer.

The Faroe Islands had a clear majority of possession after the equalizer, but failed to create clear-cut chances.

But in added time Páll Klettskarð, who had come off the bench, could have clinched the victory for the Faroe Islands with a shot from close range following a rebound, but the goalkeeper saved after Hansson’s initial shot.
